Description

EDIT 3: FINISHED! Paint still needs to be sealed.

EDIT 2: Whining to friends with workshops helped and I found a place to get my armor primed and a base coat spray painted on. Started to paint the scales today.
It went rather well, and a lot faster than I thought it would. Organic armor is fun to paint. We'll see how I'll do with the metal parts!

In the end I decided to go with the more red color scheme of the elder/ancient dragons instead of the regular grey-brown look of the un-modded in-game Dragonscale armor that seems to be based on the regular Dragons.

Yes it's not replicating a design as perfectly as possible but if you can hunt red Dragons in-game who says that you couldn't build armor out of their scales?
It did turn out a little more red than I thought, I may add a few coppery highlights - or leave it like this because I am really fond of the color as it is.

EDIT: Full set finished, with all attachements for straps later on.
Waiting for a chance to put some primer and a base color on it. I tried it out with a little bit of left over primer so there is a bit of grey 'dust' on some of the parts but it's just no good to do in the cellar - even covering every surface. I need to do it outside.
So I have to wair for warmer temperatures.

Currently, I am wondering if I should paint it like the regular armor - or choose the color of one the in-game dragon types. Ideas? I like the more bronze colored elder dragon color-scheme instead of the browns and grey in the regular armor set. And technically you could build a set from any dragon you slayed in game, right?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Long term Project for 2014! I love Skrim cosplay so I started another one now that my Nightingale is finished - this time I wanted something a little more martial looking than the sleek thieves armor. I decided to have a go at the Draconscale Armor.
I did it based on the Pepakura files made by Zombiegrimm :iconzombiegrimm:

For those interested in how I got to this result:

First I build the paper models (required some scaling because I had to adjust them for MY size individually, meaning shoulders, bracers and helmet are differently scaled from the original files).

Then I re-enforced the build with some paper masché - just white glue and some cheap left over packing paper. Let that dry thoroughly before you continue, can't be wrong to give it an extra day to make sure!

Next I covered the build with Worbla, a thermoplastic. For simple builds you can just cut parts by the looks of it since you can mold it somewhat to the shape. For more complex builds - like the helmet - it required making a pattern for the parts.

Once you have the basic objet finished and checked the fit agains your body (re-heating the material you can adjust the fit until it is comfortable), you can move on to the fun part and add texture, details and decoration to make it more unique - I particular liked all those spikes on the armor and added scales instead of the wooded texture the original seems to have. Though that took a lot of time to detail!

Documented it for one shoulder: i75.servimg.com/u/f75/16/58/54…

Btw, it is a good idea to add some attachments for fixing it to your body at this point! All of the parts have several hidden D-rings for straps later on. With my Nightingale I made the mistake of not thinking ahead about (or underestimating) how many I might need to secure it so had to glue on several additional straps to the already painted piece - we'll see how well that will hold.
Building them directly into the Worbla seems like the better option, so this time I spend some time considering this more thoroughly.

Coming up next: Boots ( or rather just shin guards since a whole boot would be uncomfortable to walk in. At first I wasn't too fond of the design for the bracers and wondered if I should just do a set of smaller boot covers so I'd have matching bracers & boot (see large & small build) but they are extremely bulky for a bracer.
It could be an interesting if you do it asymetrically and wear just one bracer instead of a shield... I'll keep the model but for now won't bother to do the additional steps.
