The problem with the original pose reference is that you have one where your POV is slightly higher than the model (I assume the one taking the piture is a little taller than the model) while you drew it from a POV looking up at the character (a popular choice to give your hero that larger than life feel).
I think that's the reason for most of your problems with this pose. I looked at a few other pose references from different angles and tried to find backviews or people looking over their shoulder. You rarely find a straight-on backview with a full-profile face - mainly because the human neck doesn't twist that far, but some of them might offer additional ideas.
